Circle of Support, Inc. is uniquely dedicated
to providing young girls with access to resources that will
help them develop into productive, responsible and successful
women.
Circle of Support, Inc. has been in existence
for over 10 years. It was established by a group of professional
women who saw a need to provide mentorship to African American
girls in the inner-city. The group originally known as Sister
to Sister started with ten girls from Pearl C. Anderson
Middle School.
Selection of these girls was through referral from the
school counselor, teachers, and the Community Liaison. The
meetings were held at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community
Center every second and fourth Saturday. The program expanded
to H.S. Thompson Learning Center as a part of their after-school
program. This program targeted fourth, fifth, sixth graders.
The program now targets girls in Frazier Court Housing
Development. The meetings were originally held once a week
at the Juanita Craft Recreation Center. Life skills classes
were taught at these meetings and tutoring provided twice
a month on Saturdays. The summer program have grown each
year. In 1999, we had 37 girls, 2000 50 girls, 2001 70 girls,
2002 90 girls and 2003 110 girls. We are expecting 120 girls
for the 2004 Girl S.M.A.R.T summer program.
An eight-week fun-filled, interactive, stimulating, intensive
summer educational enrichment program created especially
for girls! This program is designed to increase academic
performance in the areas of math, reading, and science.
This program is a comprehensive college exploration/preparation,
job-readiness, entrepreneurship and life planning program
for girls 14-18 years of age.
